For many outdoor events, portable toilets are a necessity. One thing to consider when you offer any outdoor event is the weather conditions, particularly when it comes to the bathrooms. With rain and sleet come mud and dirt, which does not lend to a clean and hygienic bathroom experience for those attending your event.

There are some things you can do to help ensure the portable toilets you rent for your event stay as clean as possible. Here are some things to think about before you set up your outdoor bathroom areas.

Location of the Portable Toilets

Location is a significant contributing factor to the cleanliness of your portable toilets. You can employ several different strategies to keep the toilets as clean as possible. First, consider placing the toilets beneath some type of shelter. Do not place them inside an enclosed space, but under a shed or even under a portable tent is helpful.

Also, if you can find a hard surface to set the toilets on, you will have more stability over placing them directly on the ground. If you do not have a solid surface, make sure to fully stake the toilets down to help prevent them from moving around.

Additionally, try to place the toilets near a structure that you are not necessarily using for your events, such as an outbuilding or fence. If you experience windy conditions, the toilets could potentially blow over.

Accessories for the Portable Toilets

In addition to placement, you may also want to consider renting some accessories to make the portable toilet experience more positive for your guests, especially when the weather is poor.

One option to consider is heating. Heating is ideal when you expect frigid temperatures. When it is damp and cold outside, your guests will not have a very good experience. Heated portable toilets are available to alleviate this issue. As a bonus, heated toilets help to dry out the air inside and help keep it smelling and looking clean.

Also consider renting some drainage mats for your portable toilets. This is not necessarily a mat but is more like an elevated step to wipe shoes on before going into the bathroom. This helps prevent mud from getting all over the floors of the portable toilets. Keep in mind you will need to clean the mats off

during the event as the mud can build up quickly.

Cleaning Schedule for the Portable Toilets

Keep in mind when you rent portable toilets, you need to have a cleaning schedule. This is especially necessary for bad weather. If you do keep the bathrooms clean, the mud will build up and prevent your guests from using them.

First, have someone available to check the bathrooms hourly during bad weather. If you notice water or mud buildup on the floors, you can clean them with a wet-dry vacuum. If you do not have access to a wet-dry vacuum, be sure to dry the floors completely dry by wiping them with towels throughout the day.

Freezing Prevention for the Portable Toilets

When the temperatures dip below freezing, you need to take extra precautions for your portable toilet rentals. Most portable toilets include a variety of solutions inside the tank to help keep odors and the growth of bacteria down. However, this solution could freeze.

One thing you may want to consider is adding a special anti-freeze solution to the tanks. Ask the operator of the rental company about this option, however. You also could have the toilets pumped out more frequently to reduce the liquid build-up that could freeze in cold weather.
