Having a wedding in your backyard, or the backyard of a friend or family member, can be a great way to reduce the cost of renting a venue, which can eat up a large portion of wedding budgets.

Backyard weddings are not free though and you will need to consider allocating your budget for certain aspects, such as portable toilets. If your backyard wedding is going to include more than twenty people, you need to consider renting portable toilets for your event. Home septic systems and toilets are not designed for high-volume use, which is why renting portable toilets for your backyard wedding is a great option.

1. Make Your Rental a Few Months in Advance

If you are getting married in the summertime, don't expect to call around and find portable toilets to rent on short notice. Summertime, when lots of outdoor events happen, is a very busy time in the portable toilet industry.

In order to get the toilets you need for your backyard wedding, it is advisable to make a reservation around three months in advance. Although a last-minute request may be accommodated, you don't want to take any risks when it comes to having everything you need for a perfect wedding.

2. Figure Out How Many Toilets You Need

You want to make sure you have enough toilets for your guests to use. You don't want long lines at the restroom hampering the fun your guests have at your event. A general rule of thumb is to provide at least one toilet for every 20 people. For example, if you are expecting 120 people to show up to your wedding, you would want to have around six toilets for your guest.

It is also a good idea to rent at least once handicap-accessible toilet so everyone feels accommodated. If anyone with young children will be attending the wedding, be sure to rent at least one family toilet as well, that provides a changing table for parents to use.

3. Figure Out Where to Put the Toilets

You want to place the toilets somewhere where the ground is flat and dry. You also don't want them to be right where you are holding your reception or ceremony. Generally, with a backyard wedding, a good place to put the toilets is either in the driveway or on the side of your home.

If the placements of the toilets will not be obvious to your guests, consider putting up some signs that direct your guests to the portable restrooms.

4. Consider Renting a Restroom Trailer

At a wedding, even one held in your backyard, all your guests are going to be trying to look their best, which is why you should consider renting a restroom trailer instead of individual portable toilets.

Restroom trailers are built to look and feel like bathrooms you would find in someone's home or business. They generally provide multiple toilets inside of stalls, with sinks and mirrors in the central area of the bathroom. They have lights, flushable toilets, sinks with running water, and mirrors. They feel like a normal restroom and are generally more appropriate portable toilet solution for a backyard wedding.

If you are planning a backyard wedding, don't forget to rent portable toilets for the event. Home toilets are not made to handle a hundred people using them over the span of a few hours. Renting portable toilets, or portable restroom trailers, will ensure all your guests have a reliable place to use the restroom.
